Jerome Paarwater has been named Head Coach of Western Province for the upcoming Currie Cup campaign kicking off early in 2022.

The experienced Jerome Paarwater has been named Head Coach of Western Province for the upcoming Currie Cup campaign.

In addition, Kabamba Floors and Nazeem Adams will serve as Western Province assistant coaches.

Experienced Western Province coach gets his shot

Paarwater has been part of the Western Province Rugby coaching structures since 2003, when he first served as the Western Province Forwards Coach.

The Stormers Forwards Coach in 2007, Paarwater went on to be appointed Head Coach of the WP team in the Vodacom Cup that season. More recently, he has taken charge of the WP U21 and U20 teams, nurturing talents such as Salmaan Moerat, Herschel Jantjies and Damian Willemse.

Former Springbok loose forward Floors is the chosen Forwards Coach, having coached the Western Province U20 pack this season, while experienced former Junior Springbok coach Adams takes charge of the backline.

Paarwater said that he is looking forward to guiding a squad full of talent, as Western Province aim for a record 35th Carling Currie Cup title.

The URC overlaps with the Currie Cup in 2022, however, Paarwater is confident he can get the team competing with the likes of the Bulls and Sharks who have been the dominant forces in recent seasons

“We have got great depth here, with exciting players coming through our ranks all the time.

“This campaign will be challenging given that it will run at the same time as the Stormers’ Vodacom United Rugby Championship season, but with the likes of Kabamba and Nazeem assisting me, I am confident that we can get the best out of our players and showcase the talent we have here,” he said.

The 2022 Currie Cup could potentially start as early as January, however, at this stage, nothing is set in stone. Unions have been preparing though, with the Bulls also appointing a seperate head coach for the Currie Cup.
