Orlando Pirates coach fires warning at Mamelodi Sundowns!

While Mamelodi Sundowns may head into tomorrow’s clash against Orlando Pirates as clear favourites for many, Mandla Ncikazi is NOT one!

Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi believes Mamelodi Sundowns aren’t ‘invincible’.

The two giants clash at Loftus Versfeld on Friday evening and having already lost four times against the high-flying Mamelodi Sundowns this year, the Buccaneers head into the match as somewhat underdogs.

This however isn’t the case for Orlando Pirates’ Mandla Ncikazi who believes his side can go toe-to-toe with the defending DStv Premiership champions.

Ncikazi caused a stir last month by claiming the Buccaneers are as big as Mamelodi Sundowns, with more fans. He remains firm in his belief that his side are on par with their next opponents.

Orlando Pirates can beat Mamelodi Sundowns – Ncikazi

“It’s an uphill battle, you can imagine you are playing the derby here, and you are playing the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who are doing well next” Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi said.

“Pirates must rise, Mamelodi Sundowns are playing well and they are doing well. But I don’t think they are invincible or immortal. It’s possible to beat them. You do have to bring your best game to beat such a good side.”

The Buccaneers are as ‘BIG’ as the Brazilians

“We are on the level of Mamelodi Sundowns but we even have more support than Sundowns!” The Orlando Pirates coach said last month.

“It’s just that Pirates are not achieving at their best currently, but we understand the process. It’s the new leadership. It’s the players that have been injured but now we are on the right track towards achieving big things.

“Half of our squad that played last season is not here. So it is positive that each one is coming back. It is important that we have the momentum of winning. Orlando Pirates is a big team in South Africa, you are expected to win every match, every weekend,”

Kickoff at the Loftus Versfeld stadium is set for 19:30 on Friday, 17 December 2021. The match will be televised live on SuperSport PSL.
