With 14 league games to go, excluding the two fixtures they didn’t honour in December 2021, Chiefs find themselves fourth on the PSL log, and 16 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Football pundits and fans alike are convinced that Sundowns have already secured this season’s league title – which would be their fifth in a row.

However, Zwane is adamant that Chiefs can still catch Sundowns, and he promised nothing but real competition when the season resumes in February.

Zwane said Amakhosi’s ultimate goal is to fight for nothing but the first spot that’s currently occupied by Sundowns.

He admitted that the league title may seem out of reach for Chiefs at this point but warned Sundowns that it’s not over until the fat lady sings.

“Our aim is to push in the league games as well,” Zwane told the Chiefs media team.

“We hope results will be in our favour and we will be there at the end of the season, competing for the number one spot.

“That is the ultimate goal for us. It looks out of reach, but we still believe anything can happen. It isn’t over until the fat lady sings,” added Zwane.

Chiefs will visit Cape Town City in their first league match of 2022 on 15 February at the Cape Town Stadium.

Kick-off is at 17:00.
