Durban Business Fair to promote local entrepreneurs, goods

Fair themed ‘buy local and support local’ will give small businesses the opportunity to sell their goods and services.

The Durban Business Fair, which kicks off in the city on Friday under the theme ‘buy local and support local,’ will draw a range of business exhibitors and young people who will benefit from a serious of empowerment and training workshops. 

eThekwini Municipality spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, said that the the 23rd instalment of the Durban Business Fair would include a jam packed programme for visitors. The fair runs from Friday 10 December to Sunday 12 December. 

“IT’S going to be a jam-packed three days of empowerment, exhibitions, and shopping of locally produced goods,” Mayisela said.

The Durban Business Fair will be held at the Durban Exhibition Centre and will feature an exhibition and street market to showcase quality homegrown quality products. 

Mayisela said that the fair aimed to promote the culture of buying local and investing in local communities for benefits such as job creation and local economic growth.

There are also planned business engagements and a Youth Business Connect session that will be facilitated by industry experts. A series of masterclasses, including an intellectual property masterclass and a digital marketing masterclass are also on the programme.

“The fair will also empower filmmakers through workshops on funding application processes for developmental programmes,” he said.

eThekwini Municipality will also hand over grant cheques valued at R250 000 to six successful local filmmakers as part of the city’s development programmes that have been facilitated by the Durban Film Office. The programmes provide support to intermediate and experienced local filmmakers.

The Durban Trade Fair will also include several fun activities for children. The

Kiddiepreneur section will give children the opportunity to participate in different innovative activities that help to instil a culture of entrepreneurship in local at a young age.

All COVID-19 protocols will be in place at the business fair.
