South Africa’s Pholetsi Moseki says the governing body are still hopeful of welcoming some fans back in the upcoming series against India

Acting chief executive officer of Cricket South Africa Pholetsi Moseki says the governing body are still hopeful of welcoming some fans back in the upcoming series against India.

The emergence of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus threw the India tour into doubt and while the BCCI has committed to touring, it remains unclear if fans will noe be allowed back into grounds.

CSA to engage government on fans in grounds

Prior to the recent developments, there was an understanding in place that would allow CSA to accommodate up to 2,000 per day during the series, with the sale of alcohol prohibited.

“The issue of fans is something that’s on our agenda and once we’re done with the meeting, we’ll make a call from there,” Moseki said this week.

“There are a few people we need to speak to before we can make an announcement but we hope we’ll be able to make an announcement by the end of the day.”

CSA hoped to receive feedback from government before Sunday’s schedule address by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“The issue of fans is something that’s on our agenda and once we’re done with the meeting, we’ll make a call from there,” Moseki said.

“There are a few people we need to speak to before we can make an announcement but we hope we’ll be able to make an announcement by the end of the day.”
