Ghanaian chef fails cooking marathon world record attempt

Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak sparked a lot of excitement during the New Year when she set out to break the Guinness world record for the longest hours cooking.

She cooked non-stop for more than 227 hours at her base located in a hotel in the northern city of Tamale.

At the time Failatu Abdul-Razak wanted to break the Guinness World Record for a cook-a-thon of 119 hours and 57 minutes held by Irish chef Alan Fisher.

But months after waiting for confirmation from the Guinness World Record team, it has emerged that the Ghanaian chef failed in her attempt.

In a statement the chef’s team said on Sunday that her attempt at breaking the record “unfortunately fell short of meeting the stringent guidelines set forth by Guinness World Records”.

“A statement from the Records Management Team cited a violation of the rest break rules, resulting in an unsuccessful attempt,” the statement from her team said.

Abdul-Razak however thanked her supporters, saying that their “backing has been instrumental throughout this journey”.

Last month another Ghanaian organizer and broadcaster, Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum also failed in her attempt to break the record for singing for the longest hours.

Last December, her attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for singing for the longest hours sparked excitement.

Asantewaa did sing for for almost 127 hours and was awaiting the Guinness World Record team to validate her attempt and confirm whether she did break the record held by an Indian since 2012.

But last month many Ghanaians were thrown into a state of shock when news broke on that Asantewaa was unsuccessful.

Guinness World Record said in a statement on X that the Ghanaian failed but can give it another attempt.
