KAIZER CHIEFS TARGET SEKHUKHUNE UNITED AND BAFANA BAFANA STAR ELIAS MOKWANA

As widely reported across local media, Chiefs are said to be targeting the 24-year-old Mokwana, thanks to his five goals and four assists.

Mokwana spoke to the media after impressing on his Bafana debut against Andorra with a goal and assist against Algeria. The speedy winger revealed that Chiefs have not made any contact with him. Mokwana also said he is intent on moving abroad.

The Chiefs target, a former Polokwane City Rovers star, admitted he has become a better footballer while revealing how his career started.

“I don’t know anything about that because my agent has not said anything,” Mokwana told FARPost about the Chiefs and Orlando Pirates rumours.

“So, I know nothing. All I am focused on is here at Sekhukhune and we will see what happens going forward. “It has always been my dream to play abroad.

“I think I have improved a lot from my first season in the PSL and the coaches have been behind me. Telling me what to do and even the senior players have been guiding me. So it’s only helping me,” the Chiefs target added.

“I was discovered by a guy called Shakes Kabini.

“He was a team manager at the club and we were playing in the ABC Motsepe League North West stream. He took me from Kasi where I was playing and took me there.

“We gained promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, then that’s where I was scouted by Sekhukhune,” Mokwana concluded.

LATE NIGHT TRAINING

Meanwhile, Chiefs are focused on hosting Stellenbosch FC this evening. Coach Cavin Johson revealed that the schedule forced the team to train on Sunday morning at 02:00.

“We returned from Cape Town on Saturday night and had a regeneration session at 2:00 in the morning so as to allow the players to rest all of Sunday, which is the best recovery. Today [Monday], we train, and we’ll be ready for tomorrow [Tuesday],” the Chiefs coach said as quoted by FARPost.

On the game against Stellies, Johnson said Amakhosi have to deliver high quality against what is a top-three team. “We will need to have a better performance than on the weekend,” the Chiefs coach added. “They are a very good side, and we’ll have to have all our ducks in a row to compete with them, but they are coming to FNB (stadium), and if we are not aggressive and arrogant on our own home ground, then we won’t get what we are looking for,” the Chiefs tactician concluded.
