This $2 Trader Joe's Find Is My New Holiday Favorite
This Trader Joe's product is a new flavor of a fan-favorite cookie, and it's the best one yet. It makes a great stocking stuffer, too.
When it comes to Trader Joe’s seasonal products, there are a handful of holiday staples that I grab as soon as they hit store shelves. Come December, I pick up multiple sleeves of Dark Chocolate Covered Peppermint Joe-Joes, a bag or two of Candy Cane Chocolate Covered Almonds, and—depending on how much space my freezer has at the moment—at least one box of Peppermint Flavored Mini Hold the Cone! Ice Cream Cones.
Notice a trend? I love a refreshing, minty treat, and there’s no better time to indulge in all things peppermint than the holiday season. That’s why I was excited to see that Trader Joe’s recently added a new product to their already-packed peppermint lineup: Candy Cane Wafer Baton Cookies.
Why I Love Trader Joe’s New Candy Cane Wafer Baton Cookies
This is not the first time Trader Joe’s has released a limited-edition version of its wafer baton cookies. Along with standby flavors like vanilla and chocolate, they’ve had seasonal options such as pumpkin spice in the fall and lemon in the spring. So when I spotted the candy cane version during my latest TJ’s run, I tossed a few tins in my cart, knowing they probably won’t reappear until next winter.
It may be because I’m currently in my peppermint era, but this is now my favorite version of the cookies. A waft of peppermint hit my nose when I popped open the lid, and as soon as I took my first bite, it was clear that they did not hold back on the candy cane flavor. The cream-colored baton was shatteringly light and crispy, filled with just enough of the sweet crème for the peppermint to shine through. Each one is freckled in festive red dots—according to Trader Joe’s product description, the muted color comes naturally from beetroot powder. My tin came with 15 batons and, best of all, cost just $1.99.
More Ways to Enjoy TJ’s Candy Cane Wafer Baton Cookies
The wafers are pretty irresistible all on their own, but they’re also surprisingly versatile. Here are more ways to enjoy them:
- Use them as stocking stuffers. Measuring just under six inches tall, these tins are perfect for adding to stockings. Stick on a bow to make it gift-worthy.
- Crumble on top of ice cream. If you, like me, also prefer your frozen treats with some textural contrast, these batons are the perfect ice cream topper. Break up a few batons over scoops of chocolate ice cream for a hot cocoa-inspired sundae.
- Serve it alongside winter drinks. Speaking of hot cocoa, the batons make for an adorable drink stirrer.
- Garnish your favorite holiday breakfasts. Add the batons to Christmas morning favorites like gingerbread pancakes and eggnog French toast to make the plates extra festive.
