The International Cricket Council has announced that the Women’s T20 World Cup, to take place in October 2024, will not be staged in Bangladesh but be held in the UAE.

The development comes in the wake of disturbances in Bangladesh, which unseated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the helm after 15 years of ruling the country with a fist of dictatorship this month.
Over 450 people were killed in the weeks leading up to her August 5 ouster, mostly by police fire. Interim leader Muhammad Yunus is a Nobel Peace Prise recipient.
“Such a shame not to be having the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. We all know the BCB was going to put on a really great event,” ICC CEO Geoff Allardice said.
“I want to thank the BCB staff for trying everything to organise the event in Bangladesh, but travel advisories from several participating teams made it impossible.
“They will keep hosting privileges. We hope to bring an ICC global event to Bangladesh soon.”
The 10-team event will be held October 3-20 in Dubai and Sharjah. Six of eight editions, including the last three, have been won by Australia. The men’s T20 World Cup was shifted to the UAE and Oman for the 2021 edition, following India’s COVID-19 outbreak.
