The top order of Sri Lanka collapsed under the potent South African bowling assault in a miserable batting display. Opening the innings, Pathum Nissanka was cheaply caught for just three runs by Heinrich Klaasen off Ottneil Baartman.

Anrich Nortje dismissed Kusal Mendis after the batsman had shown some tenacity by hitting 19 runs off 30 balls. Similarly struggling, Kamindu Mendis scored just 11 runs.

Neither Sadeera Samarawickrama nor Captain Wanindu Hasaranga scored. The team was in terrible shape as Charith Asalanka just scored six runs before losing to Nortje.

With an undefeated 16—including two sixes—Angelo Mathews offered some hope, but it was insufficient to save the innings. Insufficient were Dasun Shanaka’s nine runs as well. Impressive 4/7 from Nortje, 2/22 from Keshav Maharaj. Kagiso Rabada ended with 2/21 figures.
