Samsung South Africa recently held its Galaxy Unpacked event, where it revealed a wide range of cutting-edge technology products.

The company’s new foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 – stole the show.

Both smartphones now use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which allows them to take advantage of Samsung’s Galaxy AI technology.

Galaxy AI hugely improves the entire user experience – from better photography and editing to improved transcriptions and search features.

The interview

Aki Anastasiou, the host of What’s Next, secured an interview with Samsung South Africa’s Vice President of Mobile Experience Justin Hume at the Galaxy Unpacked event.

In this interview, Hume expands upon the incredible features Galaxy AI brings to the new Galaxy Z smartphones.

“What’s phenomenal about Galaxy AI is that it is not just about improving a picture. It is so deeply integrated in the different platforms,” said Hume.

“We see this AI solution really permeating across the different layers.”

Hume also touched specifically on a fan favourite feature, live translation, which works when also using the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro.

He highlighted that the translation is now done on the device, rather than through the crowd – a feature that will allay many people’s concerns about data privacy.

Hume then discusses Samsung’s new foldable smartphones in general, touching on their durability and various other features.

He concludes the discussion by explaining Samsung’s strategy to remain a leader in the foldable smartphone market.
