Naspers and Prosus have announced that Basil Sgourdos will retire as the group chief financial officer and financial director at both companies on 30 November 2024.

Sgourdos has been with the company for 29 years, starting in 1994 as finance manager of MultiChoice’s South African operations division.

He has served as group chief financial director at Naspers since July 2014 and of Prosus since its listing in 2019.

He also served in several other global leadership positions within the group.

Naspers and Prosus chairman Koos Bekker thanked Sgourdos for his service to the company.

“While Basil will remain active in his role for another few months, I would like to take this opportunity to recognise and thank Basil for his dedicated service to the company over the last 29 years,” said Bekker.

“During this time, Basil has contributed to the establishment of the group as a leading global e-commerce company, creating significant value for shareholders. The boards sincerely thank Basil for his committed leadership and superb contribution.”

The Naspers and Prosus human resources, remuneration, and nomination committees will soon begin the process of securing a suitably qualified successor to Sgourdos.

The company said it would notify the market of its decision in due course.
