With its latest ground incursion targeting Iran-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, Israel could be “trying to push Iran into a corner because Iran doesn't want to retaliate”, explains FRANCE 24’s Philip Turle. “Iran wants to preserve its nuclear programme, it's got a more moderate leadership that's just been elected into office” notes Turle. “But it needs to do something because it has to show its proxies that it's still a force to be reckoned with.
