Counting begins in first Bangladesh polls since deadly 2024 uprising against Hasina

Votes were being counted on Thursday in Bangladesh's first election since Sheikh Hasina's government was toppled in deadly 2024 mass protests. Leading prime ministerial hopeful Tarique Rahman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party said he was "confident" he could beat the Islamist-led coalition.
